I bought this thing before the Christmas of 2009, more than one year ago now, when it was only sold online from either the manufacture or its authorized dealers. And I wish it was sold by amazon at that time and then I would have the opportunity to return it.



This is truly the worst electronic dictionary one can find anywhere online or in a retailer store. Here are the major problems.



1. it has an internal rechargeable battery, which lasts only for a few minutes at most. This means that virtually you cannot use it without connecting it to the charger with a heavy power adapter. To make this even worse is that it seems to have a big power leak, i.e., it won't start after only one or two days after having been fully charged.



2. it does pronounce the German word, but it sounds horrible, much worse than the sound you can find online such as:[...]. Basically useless in terms of "talking electronic dictionary".



3. it has one of the worst UI compared with any electronic dictionary. If you don't like the UI and control of a Franklin electronic dictionary after using the Sharp one, this is much worse. It has no memory about your last command, and you have to start it over from the long list of alphabet whenever you need to look up a new word.



4. it's big: 145 x 92 x 26 mm; and it's heavy: 320 grams for the device plus 160 grams for the charger, for a total weight more than a full pound.



Since I was so disgusted by this purchase, I was trying to return it, and I could never get anyone to answer my email or phone call. And this thing was with me for more than one year now, but rarely used. Otherwise, I could list more problems; but you got the picture.



I don't know whether amazon as the biggest online retailer has some minimum product quality standard, but if they do, I would suggest that they should take a second look at this product.



I noticed that this model has a high number of 850, the one I have is 800. I don't think it will be too different.
